“Such a terrific class! Tons of helpful and practical information presented in a thoroughly engaging way. Jess is an outstanding presenter who is both extremely knowledgeable and clearly passionate about their subject. They taught with warmth and compassion, and provided a truly transformative experience for their learners. Would enthusiastically recommend their class to anyone!”
Anna P.“Jess did a tremendous job of communicating the stakes, and why gender-affirming language is critical--literally life-saving--for transgender people. They teach in a way that is not judgmental or shaming, but helps participants see ways in which they can better meet transgender people's needs.”
Jason M.“This course has afforded me many new tools and some real insight as to how I can make a difference and be more of a support system to my transgender child. ”

It depends! This course is designed so that you can go at your own pace and revisit content as desired. You may decide to fly through the modules or you might spend some extra time with the practice activities. As the course name suggests, I recommend that the average person use the practice strategies for at least a month. This is because shifts in our thinking and language don’t happen overnight (if only!). Some people may pick up on these changes more quickly than others, but the reality is often that changing how we refer to people can take time. Be patient with yourself and go at your own pace.
Absolutely! Even folks who have experience with using gender-affirming language will gain new insight with this course. Although the content is organized in an intentional way to optimize learning, the modules are also designed so that you can skip around as needed.
This may be a surprise, but I can 100% guarantee that you *do* know transgender people! You just might not know it, as they might not be "out." Research shows that transgender and gender-expansive people make up around 1% of the population. This might not sound like much, but that's about the same number of people with red hair! This is one of the many reasons why it's important to use gender-affirming language and proper pronoun etiquette, even if you don't think there are any trans people around. It's also always appreciated when you set a good example for others with your allyship!
The unfortunate reality is that, in spite of all our good intentions and efforts, we are human. Being human means making mistakes. So, although this course can get you as close to perfect as possible, you may still make mistakes from time to time. Don't fret, though! The course covers in depth what to do in the event that you do slip up. We'll discuss this in a video lesson *and* spend time practicing messing up, with no harm to transgender people involved!
